Brook Yeshitila is an award-winning Ethiopian visual artist, writer, and motivational speaker born in 1982 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. From an early age, he discovered the power of creativity as a way to express his thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. Largely self-taught, Brook began experimenting with art at the age of seven, exploring sculpture, abstract painting, and installation as powerful tools of self-expression and communication.
Over the years, Brook has become an inspiring figure in the contemporary art scene, celebrated for his profound creativity and resilience. Diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), a rare, progressive form of arthritis that affects the spine and large joints .Brook has faced immense physical challenges. The condition has left much of his body immobilized, except for his arms. Despite these obstacles, his spirit and passion for art have never dimmed. In fact, his condition has shaped his unique artistic method: he paints while lying upside down on a bed, extending his arm over the edge to reach the canvas on the floor. Each brushstroke, carefully controlled, carries both strength and vulnerability , a testament to perseverance and purpose.
Throughout his career, Brook has showcased his work in 15 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 20 group exhibitions across Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Zambia. His powerful creations go beyond aesthetics; they embody deep emotion, introspection, and the human experience, inviting audiences to see the world through his lens of hope and resilience.
In recent years, Brook has expanded his creative journey beyond visual art to writing and motivational speaking. Through his words, he seeks to uplift, encourage, and inspire others to overcome limitations and embrace their own creativity. His mission is to spread hope, positivity, and self-belief, connecting deeply with people through both his art and storytelling.
Based in Ethiopia, Brook continues to pursue his passion and share his message globally. Every canvas, sculpture, and speech he creates is a reflection of his unwavering belief in the transformative power of creativity , to heal, to inspire, and to remind us of the strength of the human spirit.
